I was up in Torridon last week, had a great time there, sensational weather. Spent a few days at the Torridon Youth Hostel, fine hostel, good facilities.
I was keen to get out on the hills, met a fellow walker at the Hostel [hello Norman, from Canada
] and after a half-day warm-up walk to Beinn na h-Eaglaise, I decided to tackle mighty Liathach. Road walked up from the hostel to the starting point by the car park and followed the path alongside Allt an Doire Ghairbh, soon gained height on this steep ascent, and in less than 2 hours we were on the ridge. Took a little diversion up to Stuc a' Choire Duib Bhig, from where there was impressive views of Beinn Eighe and we saw an Eagle circle just above our heads before flying away.

Back along the ridge, and a fine walk up and over two smaller tops to Spidean a' Choire Leith.

From the summit there was a superb panoramic view, taking in the Torridon hills and over to the Cuillin of Skye, aswell as Beinn Alligin to the west.

We took the direct line of the ridge over The Pinnacles, and I was glad that it wasn't a windy day, but the rock was grippy and safe.

After tackling The Pinnacles, it was a straight-forward ridge walk up to Mullach an Rathain, from where we took the rather steep descent to the South (that scree wasn't much fun), and back down to the road and to the Hostel.
A great day out for me, and my friend Norman (it was his first proper mountain walk in Scotland, but he's a natural for it). Liathach certainly is a "must do" for anyone who likes ridge walks.
