Beinn a'Ghlo

Finally made this range on saturday after a couple of call-offs. it was a fairly popular route and was very glas that we set off early enough and avoided the congestion. The route to the summit of Carn Liath was a slog, although the views to the west that opened up made it less tiresome. The summit is quickly reached and the view over the ridge is, much more than 'delightful' as is mentioned. Pretty stunning were some of the adjectives used!! The wind kicked in towards the summit of Braigh Coire Chruinn-Bhalgain ( still can't pronounce it, even with help!!!) great view toward Cairn Toul and Ben Macdui. The route to the bealach will definetly be tricky in poor navigation; we countoured round thanks to the wind as well!! Straightforward walk into the summit of Carn nan Gabhar, although with amount of boulders, this will be very tricky in the the wet. Needed insulating jackets on as the wind was chilly and strong. we took in the summit's top, Airgiod Bhienn, then descend via Allt na Beinn Bige as described. We were very surprised of the lack of obvious descent this way as it made the whole day easier than expected. We didn't tcontour Beinn Bheag as described but continued SE to the stalkers path then turned west back to the huts and the car. An excellent day out and very recommended. With a 30 minute break, the route took us 7 hrs 30 mins and wasn't as hard as we thought. Although, in different conditions, this time and conclusion would alter dramatically.

Fantastic pics, Bioman, the quality of light is amazing!! This is not an area I know except for passing through, but it looks like I'm going to have to explore it sometime- the lower levels that is!!

Cheers...I've only recently used BA as a starting point and absolutely love the area...so much so that I'm looking to re-locate soon. Perth itself is an excellent city...an abundance of quality restaurants and looking forward to Runrig in December!! But Beinn a'Ghlo was a smashing day out!!

Are you a Runrig fan then? Were you at the concert at Drumnadrochit in pouring rain last August? We got married at Urquhart Castle that day and got soaked, would really hated to have been camping.. on the way back to Inverness after the reception ended we were seeing people trying to dig their cars out of the mud

A big fan!!! Wasn't at that concert although have heard the live recordings. Urquhart Castle is a very romantic setting for a wedding though!!

It certainly was - bit wet though that day! Was a bit weird going through all the build up for the concert in the wedding car and waving Do like Runrig, would probably have gone had it been the day before the wedding rather than of it!

2 days after the wedding we were walking in Glencoe in glorious sunshine - typical!
