Lake Powell is formed by the Glen Canyon dam, so where better to start but the visitor centre at the dam, taken through the glass this shot shows both sides of the dam
After exiting the centre I crossed the dam to the opposite side to make a circular walk
The dry sandstone provides perfect grip and intriguing shapes to keep you interested as you wander
Small 'slot canyons' are formed all around the lake and weave their way to the waters edge
The shapes are formed by both water and wind blown desert sand
I stuck to the shade where possible, for as long as possible
There is little greenery here, but this bush has found the right spot
Further round the lake just before I turned to arc round downstream from the dam I saw a large speedboat going so fast across the lake it was scary to watch....the white speck top left is the boat
Across some fairly flat terrain to an overlook downstream of the dam
The water clarity has gone due to low flow downstream and green algae takes over for the length of the river
Back to the dam and away for me, another beautiful desert wander accomplished.
