Doubly lucky!! The shock of realising he'd just survived the fall could have killed him. That's a great tale for him to tell the grandkids.

before reading the story i thought he had rolled down the 1000ft but it seems he actually fell the full 1000ft glancing off the crags as he went

i dont think lucky even comes close..............someone up above must have been watching over him to survive, let alone stand up and not be badly injured

can someone define "glancing"? to me Glancing is looking quickly at something, do they mean he "bounced" off the crags?
or something out of James bond where he jumps off an building and uses a series of awnings to cushion his fall.

My friends and i were on Stob Coire Easain yesterday and we heard the Chopper flying about to your west but could see nothing for the clag.

The funny thing about it "but not for this poor Chap" we were on the summit of SCE and peering into the north facing Corrie at the time. I made the comment that it was at lest a thousand feet drop and a body could reach a speed of 300 mph by the time it reached the bottom and more that likely he or she would lose everything on the way down even the shirt off his back.

This Bloke must be made of Teflon, Kryptonite or Rubber... And just in case he is a user of this Site, Best Wishes...... and whats next weeks Loto Numbers.

Haha - that was pretty much my first thought too... But I'd rather not mess with this particular, invincible individual...

His face looked pretty rough on the BBC news, but I'd say he's just glad that he was able to do an interview.

If you go to the sky link above, have a read at the acid comments folk have left regarding I'll prepared walkers, taxpayers footing the bill, the bloke should be charged with the cost etc...

A sign of the times we're in I suppose, no mention of a miraculous survival or, of course, the fact the helicopter was on a jolly, oops!, I mean training exercise, in the area anyway!

The particular hill was a fairly pointy affair if my memory is right, it was fairly steep.

This guy was certainly very lucky, but the headline doesn't seem to describe what happened.

These quotes are from his interview with Sky News:

"We were about 3,000ft up, give or take a few."

"I couldn't because I went over the cliff edge and gained lots of speed... I was trying to slow myself down with my feet, my hands, my walking pole.

"Then I'd go over another cliff and it went on and on this way.

"I spoke to the helicopter people this morning and they said three of those drops were over 100ft in height each so I was quite lucky."

"A paramedic was winched down to check Mr Potter, who was found at 2,600ft - making his fall around 1,000ft from the summit."

So, whilst the headline has us all imagining that he plumitted down a 1,000ft cliff with a few glancing contacts with the rock on the way and then miraculously survived hitting the deck at what would have been around 300mph, the truth is that he tumbled down a very steep rock face and survived three falls of 100ft each with a total descent of around 400ft. Not quite the same, but I still want to know his lottery numbers!
