Having snooped around this site for a while, thought I should post something for my home hills on Arran, where I do most of my wandering. This wee outing was the first of the year, and with the hills just out the back, it was an easy choice of day... Pea-souper down here, high pressure to boot, wee one in school.

Down there...

It didn't take long to leave the cotton wool behind...
P1020924.JPG
And up there...

Up through Coire Lan and onto North Goatfell...
P1020927.JPG
Glen Sannox under the mire...

The views were just peachy... clouds flirting with everything in sight, bar us (which is always nice)
P1020929.JPG
Thick mobile blankets seeping over the Beinns...
P1020930.JPG
Obscuring Cir Mhor and lapping at The Castles...
P1020932.JPG
Looking over to The Divine Goat
P1020934.JPG
and the torrs of Stacach

Time for a bit of scrambling and also a twitch of excitement at the prospect of a you know what! Looking back to the north, the cloudage clears for a minute...
P1020935.JPG
Cir Mhor makes an appearance...ish

Then...
P1020938.JPG
here it comes...

As the wisps start to flow in, I grab Elsa and we both get in on the action...
P1020939.JPG
Brocken Twins

Needless to say, we nearly gushed our knickers. First one for both of us :D
We summit onto Goatfell where there are four guys, none remotely impressed with our sighting, which they could have shared by moving 20 yards down the hill. Showed them my snaps...nada. Weirdos. Anyway, we were full of it and when the grouches had left... Right from the top... we got MORE!!
P1020953.JPG

The sun was definitely shining right on us!
P1020965.JPG
P1020961.JPG

And Elsa celebrated with a handstand of glee...
P1020966.JPG

Time to head back down the tourist path... stopping for a satsuma on the shoulder...
P1020968.JPG
Looking down over Brodick Bay...

Then back down into that to pick up Bean from school...
P1020967.JPG
mmm... inviting...

It's a real privilege to live with these Arran hills on my doorstep... to be able to pick and choose my days in them and watch them endlessly. They might be wee, but they pack a punch!
So there it is... my first report. Hope it works and that someone sees it! It's quite tricky writing something without being really rude and doing lots of swearing, but if I can get the photos to load considerably more rapidly, I might do it again. :)

Brilliant

Some fab photos from what looked a great day.

You're very lucky to have such hills on your doorstep.

I've yet to visit Arran but will do this summer for some cycling and scrambling :)

Great first Trip Report.

Wow, that's absolutely fantastic! What a first post....

Oooh - I wonder if you uploaded your original sized photos in full resolution. If so, it will have taken ages :o . It is much quicker if you resize your photos first to 640 pixels wide (you can use something like Picasa to make smaller versions of them all at once). If you do that they will upload loads faster :D

I remember this day the Arran mountains looked stunning sticking out of the clouds. It was a grim day down at sea level though. Lucky sod living on Arran. Im just across the water and been climbing there since a school boy. Love the place.

BTW : I was amazed to see that I can see the Arran mountains from my work in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire!
