GLEN EY WALK

The 2nd hike of the weekend in Braemar, we decided to go along Glen Ey with the intention of going up Carn Bhac.

It was a truly glorious day, definitely needed my water pack that day.

We left the carpark at Inverey,

and it wasn't long before we crossed the small bridge which has a nice wee rocky river thing going on!!

We kept pressingon until we reached the ruin Auchelie which many sheeps were currently residing and took a right turning towards Cairn nan Seileach.

The map shows that after Cairn nan Seileach, the path soon ended, but we were unsure why. But soon found out when we hit the peats!! We decided to make a go of it and see how we got on. It ended up taking forever trying to get through the peats, and with being pressed for time and Carn Bhac still a fair bit away, we decided to call it a day and headed back.

I think next time we are looking at continuing the Glen Ey right round to Altanour Lodge, then ascend to Carn Bhac.

You may have had to turn back but it still looked like a good walk - sure leaves me yearning for the summer :D

One Easter I did Carn Bhac followed by Ben Iutharn Mhor after biking to Altanour Lodge and it's some of the most horrible peat-hag-ridden terrain imaginable. Take a look at it from Google Earth images and you can see all the peat hags. Best of luck.

I thought the track seemed ok for biking up to Altanour Lodge?? I'm assuming it's the walking bit you are talking about?
