Weather is looking peachy for the weekend seemed to be on everyone lips. So made a couple of calls to see if anyone wanted to join number one son (jack) & I. Target of choice Ben Vane. I had done it solo in the clag & Jack & I had been beaten back once from about 750 meters by wind & rain.
Arranged to meet Colin at the Inveruglas car park at 9:45 for a 10:00 start.
No one had told Loch Lomond that the weather was meant to be peachy, but no mater I was sure it would clear up. Due to an sleeping in situation Colin & his friend Bob were running late so Jack & I set out & said we would wait just past the bridge of the main track.
- peachy looking weather!
Loads of other people had seen the same peachy forecast so the half hour wait flew by as we chatted to fellow walkers heading for Ben vane or steep wee bugger, its alternative name.
Once all together we left the track just after the stream, through the wet bogy stuff, up the first steep bit through some more wet bogy stuff till we popped out on the main ridge.
- Below the mini cave
Then headed up following the well defined path to the mini cave were we stopped for a wee rest.
Then onwards & upwards, according to my GPS 720 meters of ascent in 2.4K, nice. Through a couple of chimneys, over the rock step & three false summits later we were at the top.
- Up a chimney
- Looking back
On the way up others coming down said the top was clear & sunny with cloud below. 100 meter (height) I asked a couple excitedly ‘is it still clear’ to be met with a resounding no. Yah boo sucks I say!
However when we topped out it was clear with the clouds coming & going around us with hazy views & warm. We chatted, lunched & generally took it easy for 45 mins before it was thigh pain time & down we went in the hot afternoon sun.

A good day out & a nice wee hill. On Sunday morning when moaning about my thighs, Jack says 'Dad its because it was a steep wee bugger'
