Sgurr Thuilm and Sgurr nan Coireachan

After camping overnight at Portnadoran campsite in Arisaig we started off for Glenfinnan to do Sgurr Thuilm and Sgurr nan Coireachan with the sun beaming down. At first we thought "this is a nice wee walk in" but that soon changed when we turned a few corners and saw how far we had to walk just to reach the hills.

Quite an impressive bunch of mountains lay ahead of us.

Wasnt too long before we passed the old cottage of Corryhully, great wee bothy.

As usual we missed the the track up the front of Sgurr Thuilm but managed to join up with it again about a third of the way up, was a steep wee climb and my face was already the same colour as my top!

Found it a bit of a struggle getting up the steep part as I hadnt walked for 8 weeks but eventually the views started appearing so we knew we didnt have far to go for the first summit.

So 3.5 hours and we were at the summit of Sgurr Thuilm, tired but excited at the prospect of doing the next one!

We were so lucky to have such a clear day, could see Rhum and Eigg and Knoydart,(I think, but not sure)

After having a 10 minute stop for some lunch (which as always tasted amazing!) we headed off for the next summit, Sgurr nan Coireachan. We fired on stopping frequently to look back and congratulate ourselves at what we had just done (we need a LOT of encouragement when doing the Munros lol)

Finally 5 hours 45 minutes into the walk we reached the 2nd summit of Sgurr nan Coireachean

Views were stunning and the sun was still high in the sky.

The way down was quite steep and lots of scree so it was a slow and painful descent.

Felt like it was up and down for hours but finally we were heading for home. Such a longggg way back wish we'd brought the bikes!

Can't begin to tell you how happy we were to get back down onto the pathway but looking back it felt all worthwhile.

Thought we were never gonna reach the Glenfinnan Viaduct no wonder Gordon was grinning like a Chesire cat cos we knew it was only 15 minutes till we got to the car!

Thank God we can see the Glenfinnan Viaduct!

We had walked all 9.5 hours and hadnt seen one deer then literally 4 minutes from the car....

So it was the perfect ending to a hard but rewarding day. That's numbers 15 & 16 in the bag! yipee!!

Great report and pictures of a great route. Tough though, isn't it Surprised how much it took out of me when did it. Glad to see you had views on sgurr nan Coireachan When I did these last year I started in glorious sunshine then ended up on the second summit in snow with no views This then turned to rain lower down and the wind picked up Made that walk back seem that much longer

Can just see a glimpse of the path on the walk-in. Looks like a prime candidate for the bike to take the strain. How far up does the good path go?

LOL I know, I know! It was a fab day but we were shattered. Definitely recommend a bike when you do it.
