Ruby had been moaning for weeks to take her out for a good long walk, so we had a look at the map and she put her paw on Ben More and that was that!
Decided to complete the walk from Inverlochlarig as the chance of a nice ridge walk on a beautiful sunny day was too good to miss.
We also delayed our start a little to 9am compared to normal (usually we are walking at around 6-7am) in the hope that the forecasted haze would burn off by the time we got to the summits.
So off we went at 0915.
Ruby led the way as usual
The intial climb was hard going but the views were just incredible even with the haze
Our last walk had been up Ben Tuliachean and Cruach Ardrain but in very poor conditions so it was nice to get a clear view of these two today.
After a gentle walk up the slopes after Stob Invercarnaig we finally got our first glimspe of Stob Binnein past the marker cairn
The walk along the ridges up to Stob Binnein offered some fabulous views - not sure my photography skills do them justice...
- ruby found a watering hole!
We made the summit just before 11am and sat down for a well earned pork pie and a dog biscuit or ten for Ruby
After 10 minutes we headed down the north side of Stob Binnein towards the Beleach between the two munro's
I have to admit I was tempted to call it quits here and head down the west flank and back to the car but in the end I decided that my legs were lying and that I wasnt really that tired! Still the climb up Ben More was tough going.
The view back to Stobinnien from approx half way up Ben More
After about an hour and 15mins we got our first glimpse of the summit cairn
and finally we made it, completely knackered...
We had met this couple earlier on the walk (they had taken the same route we had). Managed to get this picture just as they reached the top
And of course one for Ruby's scrap book!
After a few minutes taking in the views we headed back down the way had come up and then down the west flank to pick up the track back to Inverlochlarig. I wasnt looking forward to the return however it actually turned out to be a really pleasant walk through the valley following the river with superb views
Finally we made it back to the car after 7 and a half hours, very tired but delighted with our day out. Not sure how I will feel in the morning. No doubt Ruby will be fine as usual!!
