Sgurr Mhic Choinnich, Cuillin Hills

This report starts about 150 metres SE from the base of the In-Pinn. Rather than descend back down into Glen Brittle after a fantastic morning on Sgurr Dearg we decided as a party to experience a section of the Cuillin Ridge. Dropping down around An Stac towards Bealach Coire Lagan, Redrock, Valerie and I under the trusted lead from Steve were increasingly marvelled with this Cuillin adventure and were so grateful for having such great weather. My first photo here showns the path beginning to ease after a very tricky stretch in descent requiring care and respect. Take note of Sgurr Alasdair in its glory beyond the rocky corner.

Once around this corner there is a scrambling drop for about 300 metres to the Bealach. We chose to leave our rucsacs safely at the top of the An Stac screes and head for Sgurr Mhic Choinich planning to return some 90 mins later. Anticipating much excitement and exposure we stretched towards the top of the rotten gulley with the cliffs getting darker and higher the closer we got to the upwards scramble. Do enjoy my next series of photos that show our climb and traversing of Mhic Choinich before returning for our sacks and descending the screes into Coire Lagan. You will note that Steve did carry his sack just in case we needed any helping hands.

What amazing full day we had all experienced together in this section of the Cuillin. It can't be stressed too much how valued Steve's lead had been, and we're planning a return trip or two before returning as team to tackle some more potentially epic sections. A thoroughly fantastic weekend!

Great stuff Bod! Wasn't it amazing! It's great to look back at the pictures to see all those scrambling sections! I'm always thinking about where to put my feet next (see pic 1426 and you'll see what I mean! ) and so forget to use the camera! I see you got the photo of your little balacing trick on the ridge in too!

Two cracking reports about your adventures in Skye. Those An Stac screes look impossibly steep to be going down . Was hoping you might have went a jaunt along Collie's Ledge to the Kings Chimney so I could see some close up pictures

Fantastic I'm just back from Skye myself...
I was on Sgurr Alasdair two days later, it was rather cloudy but I managed to see the Inn Pinn from the top of Great Stone Chute. Sgurr Mhic Choinnich is still on my to-do list but... That scrambling looks scary

Yes, I will be posting all my Skye adventures, of course Sgurr Al. and Sgurr na Banachdich (which was the other Munro we managed to climb) but you have to be patient with me, as I'm out again climbing in the Fannichs tomorrow. I promise I'll do my reps as soon as I find time

Over a year ago now we climbed Sgurr Mhic Chonnich, but will always remember looking at the start of the Ledge. Something I have yet to do Soapy, but it's a must one day I reckon
