Ben Lomond Via Ptarmigan Ridge

Having had to turn back the previous week due to thunder, Del and I headed back to Rowardennan with high hopes of the views we "mist" in February when we did the tourist path. This time we opted for Ptarmigan Ridge, and weren't disappointed.

Saw this cheeky chappy in the garden just before the path starts heading up the hill. Can anyone shed any light on what kind of bird it is...

Plenty reports on this walk, so will let the pics do the talking.

Cracking walk, cracking weather, stunning views. Alot more enjoyable then the tourist route up, views from Glasgow right the way up to Ben Nevis. Ye cannae whack it

I have always done Lomond in reverse with Ptarmigan on the return as it seemed much steeper but must have a go this way next time myself.
ps.the cheeky chappie looks like a heron.

I enjoyed this walk so much I did it twice in one week from both directions. Managed to get a phot of my westie standing still on Ptarmigan ridge for 5 seconds.

Got to admit Ptarmigan ridge is the best way to do that.

My thoughts exactly, but it would be a good way to miss the crowds on say a warm weekend.

would tend to agree - have now been up this hill four times but didn't return via ptarmigan until the last time which was a definite improvement

We did this on a week day and even then it was fairly busy, didnt see anyone in high heels or flip flops tho

That was my 4th time up it too, definitely far better than tourist path

Loved your report. I've only been up the tourist route a couple of times- both times with rubbish weather, so I really enjoyed your fabbie photos- looked like you really enjoyed yourselves

Just had a squint at your pics - I went up the same way today but, despite lovely blue sky, early morning mist covered the summit - so that's what I should have seen! Great photos thanks.

After having seen your great pics Lomondwalker, I now want to do Ben Lomond again, via Ptarmigan ridge; and Beinn Chabhair from Inverarnan, and Beinn Bhuidhe through the gully (maybe), and .... HOW AM I EVER GOING TO COMPLEAT ALL MUNROS?
