Not a huge report but more to do with an alternative route on to this hill. Most people seems to start from Garva car park but I chose (to go to the moon) to do it this way. You get an impressive view of the Eastern corrie and the landrover track makes for an easy walk in and out. This was particularly notable for my first time on a hill since the Munro 29 charity push. Instead of reversing my route, I walked on to Beinn Sgiath past the ice-carved window. I scared some sheep (had they heard of my reputation?) and it was a very pleasant jaunt out. In fact, it was very odd just to be doing the one Munro but it broke the journey up nicely from Glasgow to Inverness to the UHI Exam Board. I would recommend the descent route in drier weather as the ground to the West of Beinn Sgiath is quite steep initially. Don't come off too early as there are some nasty crags. Lunch? Peshwari nan bread and vegetable pakora - divine the 2nd day round especially when trying to fend off the hill hunger pangs. Terrible gas mind. Wherever you may be....

Hi Kev,

Thanks for posting this report. I was looking for something short and sweet to take my daughter on- this sounds ideal! :D

Just reverse the route from the cairn for one of the more 'easy' and pleasant Munros. Enjoy!

A nice wee opportunistic strike there Mr P! However, my eagle eye spots the date of this jaunt as being today (21/6). Surely not! Unless of course this was the Jamaican Geal Charn!

A nice easy Munro this one is :D Funny, I posted my report from it just a few hours before you. We climbed it the usual way from Garva, it was just after a few days of heavy rain so we didn't want to risk crossing Markie Burn. My husband had done it some 10 years ago on his own, using your route and he complained it was one of the boggiest hills in his life

Looks like a good alternative route - & glad you've recovered from your 29 hill epic :D

I did it this way too a couple of years ago, and had been meaning to post a report - but you've beaten me to it! This seemed the obvious approach to me, and I hadn't even realised most people did it from further along the road until I read the reports here. As you say, the views of the eastern corrie give it a bit more character. I did it as an out and back by your ascent route, as from looking at the stream on the way up it wasn't obvious it could be forded lower down.

Same route for me too, and I also thought I was going the 'usual' way! Rubbish weather and howling gales though, so all ways would have looked the same.

Just to add, if you'd hit the Markie Burn slightly higher up, where the stalker's path crosses, there is a bridge. I think even the SMC Munro book fails to mention this. I only found it as the river was so high that I decided to follow it up a bit further.
