A short distance after leaving the car i picked up a path that is or joins the Alladale Ramble which passes north of Castle Crag.

At 247156 this path was left and after a wander to take a few photos i found myself at the foot of the slate heap. A steep but short ascent brought me to a flatter area followed by a less steep ascent to the summit. The views were stunning and of the two hours i spent on the summit most of it was sat looking north to Skiddaw.

A slow stroll was had back to the car with a detour to High Doat at 246144, Castle Crag may be the lowest Wainwright but its gained a place in the top five of my favourite Wainwrights.
