We drove down the A701 to Tweedsmuir and crossed the Tweed then took the minor road for Fruid reservoir all the way along to Fruid farm, half way along the road we spotted an Osprey perched on top of a passing place sign overlooking the reservoir so we stopped in the hope that it would sit long enough for me to get the camera out,no such luck as it flew off within a few seconds, anyway we arrived at the parking area just before the farm and set off,it wasn't long before we had to stop and get the wet gear on as the rain started pouring down.We followed the track around the top of the reservoir crossing a bridge over Fruid Water then down to a smaller bridge over Carterhope Burn, although the OS map shows what looks like a good path from here to the boundary fence at Spout Craig the path on the ground seems to disappear just after Macrule Hill,so with the driving rain and low mist visibility was really poor and we took a bearing to Spout Craig.Once there we followed the fence all the way up to Hart Fell,by now the sun was starting to break through and we stopped a while for lunch then headed off down the long spur to Big Knock then back onto the track through Fruid farm to the car.
