After the satisfaction of bagging our first Scottish hill (Meall Fuar-mhonaidh), We thought we were confident enough to bag our first Munro. So some quick research was done, and Bynack More was chosen. Chiefly due to the fact it was relatively close to where we were staying, and also seemed ideal as a first Munro.
After parking up at Glenmore Outdoor centre, we made our way through Glenmore forest, passing the beautiful An Lochan Uaine (The Green Lochan),rounding Creag nan Gall and made our way through the open moorland towards the bridge over the River Nethy. From here the long, steady climb to the plateau of high moorland began, and with a warm wind and cloudless sky, the sweat was starting to drip and obscuring my vision through the sunglasses!! After what seemed like an age we eventually reached relatively level ground, and the first full glimpse of the ridge we would soon be tackling.
As we approached the foot of the ridge, the weather began closing in and soon the top of Cairngorm was obscured by cloud, although Bynack More's summit was still visible, the wind soon was blowing the rain onto us, so it was waterproofs on, and a lunch stop behind a large rock ready for the final ascent. Lunch done, we put our heads down and started the climb. As we approached the summit, the clouds drew in visibility decreased dramatically, but we didn't care, for a few minutes later we were touching the cairn of our first Munro!!! Couple of photo's, swig of lucozade and a chat with a couple of German walkers later, we turned round and headed back down.As we descended the ridge, the weather improved, giving us some spectacular views of the Cairngorms.
3 hours later, we were back at the car, absolutely elated with what we had done, our first Munro. Hopefully, the first of many.....
