Thanks all for the comments - don't think there's anything wrong my mental state or sanity (but that's my opinion)

malky_c wrote:What a great second day! I haven't looked yet, but I'm guessing you must have blitzed all of the Cairngorms over two overnight trips...
Nearly - two overnighters and day trip to complete as I'd walked the other three in previous years

Absolutely no chance of that happening 8)

Not too bad really. There was enough wind on day 1 to keep them away. Day 2 - there were some early morning when I returned to the tent but apart from that no problem. Can't say the same for the other trips

Cracking write-up Rockhopper! Really whetted my appetite now - and useful too. Thanks :-)

The wet-suit shoes sound like a great idea - wish I'd thought of that when fords haven't proved to be up to that much before now, I've just waded (well, paddled) through in bare feet. Pleasant it isn't!!

And the midges is one of the reasons why I'm going in September. Hopefully a bit less fearsome then - but there again they do really really like me, so who knows?!

A long trek :!:
Great photos of the mist topping up the corries
I was surprised at that patch of snow just before popping up to the top of the Ptarmigan as well.

Great walk and report. Interesting to see your photo of the Alt Coire Raibert. I went that way about 5 years ago and it was a roaring torrent - no chance of crossing and I didn't fancy the Fords of Avon. I climbed back a bit and went over a 2m thick snow bridge. The descent on the W side was easy but I had to wade the inlet stream into Loch Avon - knee deep and cold :) . Then same as you -- Etchachan and then Beinn Mheadhoin, down very steeply to the high point of the Lairig an Laoigh and up Beinn a Chaorainn. Returned to the Lairig and continued down the flats of Dee : Donna picked me up at the Linn of Dee.
I'm currently plotting my way up Ben Avon, my last but one.
