Friends in high places

There's a saying I heard recently that Man Utd fans were like vermin, you were never more than two feet away from one of them! Could this now be said about the amount of hill-walkers who are out there?

My husband had happened to mention to one of his workmates that I was out and about on the hills quite a lot and often on my own. 'Not a problem' his mate said 'I know a woman who is looking for someone to go out with'. Phone numbers were duly exchanged and with only a few hours notice I received a phonecall from the lovely Anne inviting me on an outing. This had been arranged to show her friend Vimal a few Scottish hills. Vimal was a guide from Nepal who had assisted climbers up Everest. Anne and her friends had met him when they went to basecamp a few years ago. And so yesterday off we trotted to Ballachulish.

We parked in the carpark just past the hotel and made our way up through the forest, enjoying the views when there was a break in the trees.

Forest walk

When you leave the forest the path gets quite boggy but its not long until you reach the bealach. First hill was to be Sgorr Dhonuill. A bit of a scramble at the top but no problems.

Number 29 for me!

It was getting quite wet, so back down to the bealach, quick change of clothes and up to Sgorr Dearg. A very straightforward climb with a very easy path to follow.

We didnt hang about because the views were minimal and headed back down to the forest.

Last look up to Sgorr Dearg.

So how did we round off Vimal's trip to the Scottish hills? A visit to the Drover's of course!!!

Well done on getting to 30 and on a pair of great looking hills. Still to do them myself

You'll still have to go back for that top you missed out though

Thanks Garry. Think you would enjoy these two. Yes did miss out by not doing the ridge walk but I'm the newbie so happy to let others decide. The weather, although not very wet, was crappy enough to obscure any views along the ridge, so I think they made the best decision by going up through the forest. I don't normally enjoy forest walks but this was fab- no midges at all!

Glad you like the rucksack, very cheap- honest! In fact just for you I'll attach a photo of it!

Sorry, you know I would love to go winter walking with you but I don't have any crampons, I used the last of my magic beans to buy my rucksack

I could ask Santa to bring them, he does still exist doesn't he??
