Where's ye Bin?

Another local sortie. Every time the weather hasn't been great, my wife always asks 'is it Meikle Bin today?' as a running joke - I have never done but have threatened for a while. Well, today I would change that. I would actually do the Bin. The road over the Campsies from Lennoxtown is rutted but an attempt has been made by the cooncil to fill them in with chaff. I arrived at the car park opposite Todholes Farm and set off. It's a lovely woodland walk, which rises slowly to about 450m. you really don't feel like you're ascending at all. The last wee bit on to the summit was steeper and the trig point is on a lovely 'pap', which feels more airy than it is. I did a skirt round the hill to find some air crash wreckage but was slightly put off by an eagle's dinner remains, left on the trig point - or was it some kind of Carron sacrificial offering? Lovely views over to Arthur's Seat I think and the Ochils. I ran down as the crowds started up. A fine wee hill and one I look forward to in Winter. RIP Robertson and Smith.

Saw west - to Arran - and East to (er... the Forth Bridge) on Meikle Bin last day of October last year. It is a cracking hill.Thanks for your reprort Kevsbald

Snodland, pretty sure I saw Arthur's Seat - just to the right of the bridge so that must be 40 miles ACF. I guess I'll need to say I'll be off to do the Whangie next...

Meikle Bin gives fantastic value for the views given the effort to get there. It's particularly good for a half winter's day or a summer evening. In the clearest conditions I've seen the Bass Rock, Ailsa Craig and the top of Schiehallion from the top. It's also a good viewpoint for observing the spread of windfarms across the Central Belt.
