Graeme Dewar wrote:Hey Bod, that's you drawn level with me on the Munro count now! Dothaidh is the only hill where I've been blown clean off my feet by the wind! Nice to see you, Valerie and Ritchie out again this weekend. I was house-bound! Next weekend though! As chance would have it, we're staying at the Bridge of Orchy (leaving Ailsa and Lucy with my mum and dad). Hopefully get the Aonach Eagach done. Stayed there several times before but always in the bunkhouse - doing it in style this time in the hotel itself. Must make sure I remember my wallet to pay for all that lovely food and beer!

Oh Graeme you'll love it. Stayed there loads of times. Garry and I got upgraded last time we were there- smashing!!! Enjoy!

PS where's the ridge report?

A great couple of hills, just a pity you couldn't sample the fare in the hotel, it does great food. I stayed in the bunkhouse there one night, and then breakfast in the hotel in the morning - with the sun out and the windows open, it's hard to imagine a better location.

Well folks, thanks for all you comments and jovialities!!! It's been fun this one, but I have discovered one more twist in the tale and I have now docked myself one on my Munro tally! Beinn an Dothaidh has managed to see me Temporalily Geographically Embarassed, as I am now certain that Valerie and I were at the Southeast top grid ref. 333406  .
Beinn an fecking Dothaidh! And there was me feeling proud of myself for knowing all about the potential summit miss on Beinn Dorain having done my homework there. We even considered heading westwards to the 1000 metre spot height before returning to the Bealach, but ruled that out because of the lack of views in the clag and rain. Wish we had now as that would alerted me when we were actually there.
Nevermind, I will just have to return one day, this time with cash in my pocket...yeha, going to get my pint eventually! Maybe even treat Valerie to an evening in the hotel and if we can, we will climb Beinn an Dothaidh on a fine sunny winter's day... :D :D
Off now to dock my tally figure....boohoo :(

Bod,

I still have that one to do. Give me a shout next time you're heading up. I promise I'll empty my piggy bank and buy you and Val a drink!

Nice report Bod, shame about the rubbish weather and the non-summit. I very nearly did exactly the same, luckily it was a bit clearer when I did these and noticed the other summit of to my left while thinking I was on the actual summit.

Like your 'ploy' with the petrol, one way to find out who your friends are.

I know how you you feel about non summitting ,I did the same on Dreish two weeks ago

After doing Mayar from Glen Prosen thought I had reached the summit of Dreish only to find on arriving home in Kelty that I had only been at a lower cairn

An excuse to go back

Great read. Have I seen these pictures before? Where these on Polly's facebook?

Shame about the weather and all you guys went through. Get your crampons and axe out, the snow's on it's way? Loads of bum slides to make up for the clag and stuff :) :D

Well done on completing these two with all your strife.

I love the chips at the real food cafe.

When i did these to avoid going to the bealach three times i cam down the grassy front of Doth, not my smartest idea it was pretty steep

Regards

Oh dear what a calamity, three auld ladies locked in the lavatory

Unlucky Bod. It wasnae Friday the thirteenth, No, it wasnae April fools day, No. It was Bod day. :D

Not to worry, You saved a couple of bob on the day and you can go back and visit when the weather is better. :D

Strange attitude by the petrol station. I done something similar years ago and they were happy to take my details and i would send them payment or pop back with my wallet. :D

Monty, there shall be many more Bod Days! But hopefully not so penniless! Usually I am very proud of my Bod Days, or Bodwalks as I call them and these was no different. Very much enjoyed these two mountains in the mixed conditions we met, and I looking really forward to a Winter's walk back up Beinn an Dothaidh.... :D

Great Stuff Bod! Missed this a while back - but catching up now! Such a pity about Beinn an Dothaidh - it's easy done in all that clag. :( But great you got the clearance for the summit of Beinn Dorain - really atmospheric the pictures you took there! :D Val really has a knack with weather forecasting - she must have a secret deal with MWIS! It will be worth the return in the snows! 8)
