Sgor na h-Ulaidh, Beinn Fhionnlaidh & Beinn Sgulaird

After my last couple of trips spent largely in rain / clag / hailstones / snow, I vowed not to go back out again unless good weather was guaranteed. Then only two days after returning from my last claggy outing the forecast suddenly looked up for the weekend. Not sure though if the family could put up with my being away again for a second weekend in a row. Undaunted, discussed it with my better half and we did a deal. I then booked a day’s annual leave which would give me 3 days and 2 nights away – to spend around Glen Etive.

Now really looking forward to this, left Glasgow early loaded up with kit for 3 days. Parked in the wee parking space just north of Invercharnan. Weather a bit overcast but looking good with no wind.

Full of enthusiasm, I jumped out of the car eager to go when……BAM….the midges hit me and I jumped back in the car to reconnoitre and plan my next move. Copious quantities of smidge and deet spray duly applied, I set off up the track through the woods from Invercharnan close to the Allt nan Gaoirean – cycled part of the way then locked up the bike.

Good track up until I emerged from the woods. From then on I found faint tracks in places but the going wasn't difficult – just rather boggy in a lot of places which wasn’t surprising given the recent rain.

Still got a few plans over this terrain so nice to get a description.

That's some route . I think I've seen a report for something like this once before, but I wouldn't imagine most people would think to do this. Nice photos as well. Must've started to grate on the knees a little by the end...

We did a route up there last year, tough couple of days it was. As for the midgies try high level camping, should help greatly.

What plans have you got for your 100 th Munro?

Nice one again rockhopper,you are fairly racking up the long routes & your munro count,have you got a plan in mind for your 100th.

Fantastic walk there Rockhopper.

I did sgulaird on its own in snow & loved it. was looking to link the other two in this report so a realy good read for me. Was wondering about a two car approach starting in glen coe & ending in etive
For a while there you & i were on a similar munro count, but you've had a spurt recently!

Hey Rockhopper i did a similar route 4 weeks ago solo.

What a slog to the 3rd munro Loved the challenge of this walk.

Great effort.

I will post my TR next week at some point ,as just a slight variation on the route.

malky - knees were OK; it was the balls of my feet which started to feel the pounding at the end of day 3

My word, thon's an epic trip ! Impressive. I knew it was possible to do h-Ulaidh and Fhionnlaidh together, but hadn't heard of anyone going for the hat trick and throwing in Sgulaird as well ... lovely photos too . Very jealous - I'd never get permission from my wife for this much of an epic !
