Back to the cairngorms for me ,Ian and Jake for some unfinished business, the plan was macdui and derry cairngorm which we were supposed to climb a few weeks back and maybe also do cairn gorm as well.So we set of at 8 sharp on the path up macdui from the ski centre.
004.JPG
nice high start
006.JPG
It's a good high start from here and we were making good progress when we spotted a reindeer on the hill in the distance
013.JPG
The beast soon shot off and we thought that would be the last we would see of it when it returned with it's mates and headed right down the hill toward us
023.JPG
026.JPG
The herd came down to within about 10 yards of us to check us out before heading of back up the hill ,took loads of pics and then continued on up the path and got to the macdui summit in about 2 hours
028.JPG
lairig ghrudown there somewhere
032.JPG
034.JPG
ian and jake on ben macdui
036.JPG
The wind was blowing hard up here so it was on with a brew in one of the shelters before heading towards derry.Could see derry cairngorm in the distance and came to the conclusion of NO.We changed our plan and began thinking about beinn mhheadhoin instead
040.JPG
loch etchachan
Of course when we got to the bottom of that hill we binned that plan as well
046.JPG
crags over loch avon
So we kept on down the path to the shelter stone and loch avon

shelter stone?

ian getting his feet wet
053.JPG
055.JPG
056.JPG
Glad we came down this way ,it's a right quiet place also got a good laugh at ian trying to cross the burn :lol:A quick bite to eat and then up the rocky pat of the coire raibert
058.JPG
jake in the coire raibert
059.JPG
It's quite a steep climb up here over some slippy rocks but we were soon up on flatter ground and on our way to cairn gorm
065.JPG
cairn gorm cairn
Quite a few folk milling about on the summit so just a quick pic and then headed down the path to the ski centre for a pint  Another great day ,never quite achieved what we set out to do but still a great walk and decent weather if a bit windy(mwis spot on today)bring on the next one :D

Great report. The scenery in the centre of the Cairngorms is very dramatic but is seldom seen.

Just love this whole area of Loch Etchachan and Loch Avon. You looked a bit puggled on Cairngorm  - the wind does get to you after a while and the rocky climbs can be tricky - cheers

PS got a bit confused by the title and hills including Derry Cairngorm as opposed to Cairngorm :?

Very true yipyip,we had only seen 2 guys all day until we came up from coire raibert then it was pretty busy on cairngorm even a wedding going on at theptarmigan station :?

Taylor, not sure how much hill walking you have done and i'm no expert myself but the weather in the cairngorms in november could be pretty harsh,on a good day the walk out to ben macdui would give you no real problems but in november there's every chance of snow, high winds and low clouds so take care man, hope i've no put you off :D

Shame about Loch Lochy Polly, get up them Cairngorms early doors and you might see the reindeer herd, would imagine they go into hiding once it gets a bit busier

Nice route variation on the return leg. I haven't spent nearly enough time around Loch Avon, so always good to see some photos 8)
