Yes Tor and High Wilhays: Bleak Beauty
Hewitts: High Willhays
Date walked: 18/10/2020
Time taken: 5 hours
Distance: 12km
Ascent: 600m
We had come down to Dartmoor and Devon to see various family members and to reach the summit of the two Nuttalls in the area: Yes Tor and High Willhays. We decided to meet at the Meldon Reservoir at 10am. The Okehampton firing range was not active today thankfully .The website warned of unexploded material not to be touched and gone near, luckily we did not find any; we probably would have had to be very very unlucky to find any material

The highest summit of Dartmoor : High Willhays
We got to High Willhays and after having some much needed lunch, we decided that just dropping down the valley direct, over Fordsland Ledge, would be quicker than doing the route that the Nuttall book suggested . My dad was quicker than the rest of the party down the steep slope of small boulders and grass, and was convinced that the path was on the other side of the river in the bottom of the valley. He was looking for somewhere to cross the river and ended up falling in the river with Fintan not helping. Luckily he didn't hurt himself and only the Nuttall book was lost to the West Okement River and into Meldon Reservoir. It turned out in fact that there was a boggy path on this side of the river so there was no need for my dad to get anymore wet.
A nice riverside walk in the Black a Tor National Nature Reserve to finish
