Seeing as the weather was meant to be beautiful for a few day we thought we'd make the most of having a couple free days we had by taking our tent with us up some munros. We decided upon Driesh and Mayar as they aren't too close to many other munros so I wouldn't be tempted to attempt too many in the 25 degree heat that was forecast

Leaving from Edinburgh just before lunch we stopped at a lovely little cafe just outside Perth called The Chestnut Tree. We ate some lovely toasties and they had a delicious looking selection of cakes. They had gluten free bread for my toastie however none of the cakes were gluten free which was disappointing

We arrived at Glen doll about an hour later however it was so hot we decided to wait a couple of hours before attempting to lug our camping gear up Driesh and Mayar. We sat in the shade and paddled in the river while we waited.



At about 3:30 we decided to grab our bags and leave. We knew the first part of the walk we would be under the cover of trees so would be protected from the sun. It was the first time we'd walked up munros with our camping things on our backs and it was hard going in the heat but looking back at the view we knew it would be worth it.




Arriving at the point where the path splits, left to Driesh and right to Mayar, we dumped our bags by the side of the path and continued up to the summit of Driesh without them. We were drenched in sweat by this point so we were relieved there was a nice cool breeze which allowed our T-shirts to dry as we walked without our bags.



After reaching the summit we quickly made our way back down to pick up our bags and climb Mayar which wasn't too challenging at all. After reaching the summit of Mayar we headed north and after the first steep down hill climb we spotted a nice flat spot by the stream near the first waterfalls.



We thought we might take a dip in one of the waterfall pools however after dipping just our feet in we decided it was too cold and quickly retreated to the sunny spot around our tent. We spotted at least 4 frogs, almost stepping on 2 that were hiding in the grass. For dinner we shared a can of soup and some biscuits. As the cool breeze subsided we started noticing a few midges about. They weren't too bothersome but we decided it was about time for bed anyways so shut ourselves in the tent leaving the inner doors unzipped as it was so warm we needed air.





We got up just before 7am the next morning and packed our stuff up without seeing any midges. We had the valley to ourselves as we descended towards the forest admiring the beautiful views.






Once in the forest we past about 10 different people setting out for a day of hot walking. We arrived back at the car at about 8:15am and set off for Edinburgh, stopping in Forfar to pick up some brunch from Tesco.
