A pleasant afternoon
Route: Airlie Monument and Dykehead circuit
Date walked: 17/10/2020
Distance: 6.25km
My wife and I, accompanied by our two small dogs, did this walk on a fine October afternoon. It’s a pleasant couple of hours, but I think it could be better done as an out-and-back from Dykehead along the farm road and then up to the Airlie Monument from the car park that is recommended as the start point. The section from the monument to Cortachy Cemetery is mostly through recently logged pine forest with plenty of muddy sections to dodge with uninspiring scenery, and then there’s the walk along the road down to Dykehead.
Taking the farm road from Dykehead past Coiliamy Farm gives excellent views of Strathmore to the south and the west along a quiet road. Well worth seeing twice on an out-and-back.
