First Corbett

Route: Stob Coire a' Chearcaill, from Loch Eil

Corbetts: Stob Coire a' Chearcaill

Date walked: 25/03/2022

Time taken: 6.5 hours

Distance: 14km

Ascent: 771m

Firstly I'd like to thank those of you who have written and posted reports of this walk ,I turned back on an earlier attempt at a much tougher Corbett
I found the descriptions most useful and it is definitely as beginners Corbett , at 64 years young I am no spring chicken ,so I was a finding out experience
I left my small motorhome at around 8am after a breakfast of square sausage rolls

The parking has changed a little ,the turning point has no parking signs but there is an adjacent verge that I used
Heading up along the stalkers path takes you through a yard

I headed up onto the slopes ,the clouds were very low and the mist was quite thick , the track brings you to a cairn on the left and as described, take a right
As I looked down on loch Eil the clouds were only meters off if the loch surface , I kept walking past a burn ( stream)

The first of the wild life appeared on the horizon a small herd of deer , after that I saw my.first ptarmigans ,a few sky larks were around dancing in the sky

As I covered the ground I marvelled at the different colours of the ground vegetation

I picked up the line of old sheep fence and headed towards the cairn at about 600 meters altitude
From there it was on to the ridge and finally the summit

The last 150 Meters or so we're in the clag but as I got to the trig point the cloud parted and the sun shone down ,it was a wonderful experience ,I walked all over the summit to make sure that I got the 771 meters , the ground.generally was not too boggy and I met one lady on my descent who was bagging the corbett

The route was easy to follow and a good Corbett for beginners like myself to have a go at
