Slioch

Route: Slioch, near Kinlochewe

Munros: Slioch

Date walked: 05/09/2008

10/08/08 - 2 experienced hill walkers, +15 yr old son and 2 loopy border collies. Rain, low cloud and more rain.
OK so the weather forecast had said rain, but it looked like it was going to be a nice day when we set off!
A long walk in, pleasant with good views over Loch Maree and surrounding hills. A long, hot and muggy ascent to coire, bothered by midges. Heavy rain whilst crossing coire, lots of bog! - If this walk is only a bog factor of 2, you would probably need a dinghy for a bog factor 5. Weather improved on ridge, so we had a quick run up Sgurr Dubh and got the best views of the day. Long steep and grassy ascent of Slioch with increasing cloud and poor visbility. Visability improved slightly on the ridge, An t Aon Cheum and on Sgurr an Tuill Bhain and we had good if fleeting views between the showers/cloud over Letterewe and Fisherfield Forests. Heavy rain during descent and we got very wet. Had a second lunch by the lovely waterfalls of Gleann Bianasdial below the cloud level. Long and tiring walk out to Incheril. We were very wet! The dogs loved this walk, splashing in and out of puddles and streams - they didn't care about being very wet.
