Ben Lui & Beinn A' Chleibh

Munros: Beinn a' ChlÚibh, Ben Lui

Date walked: 25/08/2010

Time taken: 7 hours

Distance: 20km

My original plan was to go to Arran on this day as a break from driving up that damn A82 but I changed my mind the night before. I shortlisted Ben Lawers and Ben Lui, choosing Ben Lui eventually. I've been out walking almost every week in the last 2 months and I've literally got soaked to the skin everytime. Ben Vane , Ben Lomond, Ben More & Stob Binnien, Bidean Nam Bian were all total soakings , low cloud level, very low visibility.

I figured I was due a decent day and MWIS looked quite promising so I set off with high hopes. It was a glorious morning all the way up the M77 and along the M8. When I parked at Dalrigh and set off at 9.30 am there was some cloud but it was scattered.

Part of the reason I chose this walk was for the nice long walk in alongside River Cononish, the views to Ben Lui were excellent. I'm sure you have all seen plenty of pictures of Ben Lui from Cononish. :D

When I got to the top of Ben Lui I decided to do Beinn A' Chleibh too as it's right next to it. It was quite an uneventful and boring hill after Ben Lui which had a little bit of a scramble up the edge of Coire Gaothaich.

Views were brilliant the whole way. Iknow there is a much shorter way to do these two hills but I think Ben Lui should be done from Cononish side.

The rain stayed off until I was nearly back at the car and I even got a little sun burnt. Good views from the top.

Definitely one of the best days on the hills I've had. Suprisingly , I didn't see a single other person all day.

I don't know how much ascent was involved in this walk.
