The Southern Summit Above Loch Lomond
Munros: Ben Lomond
Date walked: 20/03/2022
While this would be my second trip up Ben Lomond in 12 months, it would be the first for my two hiking buddies and certainly a worthwhile and memorable trip. We chose to take the simple route to the summit and then retraced our steps on the descent. This was not only due to the fact we were (and are) novice hillwalkers but also due to my prior experience with the loop route that follows a narrow and foliage-flanked path after descending north then westward from Ben Lomond's peak.
After several short water and snack breaks, we reached the summit in roughly 2 and a half hours, making sure to spend plenty of time taking in the crisp early-afternoon views. The descent back down the well-maintained path was as easygoing as one could hope, though we certainly had aching feet by the time we had arrived once more in the busy Rowardenan Car Park.
