Route: The Cobbler, Arrochar

Corbetts: The Cobbler

Date walked: 16/07/2016

Time taken: 3.5 hours

Distance: 11km

Ascent: 920m

This is my first go at climbing anything in Scotland it has been annoying me for a while that I live here and haven't been up any mountain whatsoever so thought I'd give it a bash
I arrived at the carpark at succoth at 9am and passed the carved fox at the entrance to the path at 9:15am and set off on the zig zag path through the forest section.
This section was by far the toughest part of the climb for me I must admit I was a sweating a fair bit through here but the scenery was nice and the views back down to the loch were very nice. Coming up onto the plateau things get a lot easier and enjoyable although I must say as the peaks of the cobbler come into view it is a little daunting as it looks very far away, not to be disheartened I carried on at a fair pace and soon came up to the narnain boulders.
After a short walk I came up to the fork in the path and chose to go left and up the more difficult path up the cobbler I enjoyed this section and the views were amazing. Time flies when you're having fun and before I knew it I was scrambling up onto the area between both peaks I chose to go left and go to the actual summit of the cobbler first however it was very windy and as my luck would have it the clouds flew in and I couldn't see much of the fantastic views of been told about, I still really enjoyed this though and the sense of achievement at getting my first Corbett was pretty good. After about 10 mins of messing about I came down and went to the other summit which I believe is the north peak, while climbing I chose to go over the more rocky path clambering over rock sheets and then upto the summit here I sat down for a rest are my sandwich and nuts and took some more photos. I might add that the clouds were still blanketing the summit so the pictures taken consisted of me eating sandwiches surrounded by fog still I had a great time although it was getting a bit blowy and cold so I decided to head down again after about half an hour spent between the two peaks.
The path I took down was the path at the rear of the cobbler as it was a little easier from what I'd read however it was still difficult as the rocks had become slippery with the moisture in the air and frequent drizzle, but my descent was fairly quick and I made good progress arriving back at the carpark at around 1pm all in all a great day and can't wait to do the next one which I think will be ben Lomond (once my legs are working properly again haha) I highly recommend it to anyone thinking of giving it a go I'll climb it again also hooefully in better weather as I want to see the views
