Route: Wamphray Glen circuit, near Moffat

Date walked: 18/07/2018

Time taken: 1.5 hours

Distance: 5km

Easiest way to find the start point is to head onto the APR road parallel with the A74(M) at the Johnstonebridge junction. Heading north, travel for about 1/2 mile and then turn right signposted for Newton/Wamphray. Drive past an old Hotel, over a narrow bridge, through and a crossroads at Newton, straight on and then under a particularly narrow railway bridge (wing mirrors in). Turn left at the junction and keep going until you see a large-ish lay-bye at a junction. That’s where you park.

Wonderful walk, particularly quiet, maintained by the Crown Estates.

Some livestock (with pigs by jings) in fields half way round so be careful with dogs.

Some interesting buildings on the way round - all in all, very good.

Mostly flat however a number of wooden stairs which are slippy when wet.
