Good Walk. Mind Where you Park.
Route: Moncreiffe Hill near Perth
Sub 2000s: Moncreiffe Hill
Date walked: 28/01/2023
Time taken: 2.25 hours
Distance: 8.96km
Ascent: 311m
I followed the directions from Walkhighlands to get to the car park on the Bridge of Earn side of the hill but the gate was padlocked shut. There were quite a lot of signs warning about trees being felled in the area so it might have had something to do with that. This was around 7:45am in the morning so I went to the alternative car park which is closer to Rhynd. No parking charges here and the gate was open. There was only one other car in the car park when I started but it was busier when I returned.
Overall the route was lovely with great views over Perth and Bridge of Earn, depending which side of the hill you were on. The routes are marked well and it's fairly difficult to get lost. It had been fairly wet overnight and that morning and parts of the path can get muddy but nothing a decent pair of boots can't get you through.
The ascent is fairly steady in just about all places so a good walk for beginners, people getting back into the swing of things, for families with kids and dog walkers. I noticed on the walk back to the car park a lot of dog poo bags left at the side of the path. Not even hidden so I'm assuming it was to collect on the way back to the car park and because I didn't see a bin anywhere on the route or in the car park. Something to maybe bear in mind if you've got a four legged friend.
