Base camp at Glenuaig Lodge - Walk 3

Munros: Moruisg
Corbetts: Sgùrr nan Ceannaichean

Date walked: 04/06/2019

Time taken: 4 hours

Distance: 8.5km

Ascent: 780m

Having climbed Maoile Lunndaidh in the morning and eaten lunch at the lodge, the weather had improved considerably. We decided to head back out and climb Moruisg and Sgurr nan Ceannaichean which appeared to be an easy circuit from our fantastic spot.

There is a clear path zig-zagging up the hill just to the west of the lodge but the start of it isn't easy to find. The best approach is just to start up the braided stream, Allt a' Chlaiginn, the one providing all our lovely electricity. At around 400m the path is obvious. It is a wide grassy track cut into the hillside and provides easy climbing to 750m.

The top of the path has a small cairn (useful if you are tying to find it in descent).

From here the gradient eases and its an easy walk to the head of Coire a' Chlaiginn and onwards to Moruisg.

The walk to Sgurr nan Ceannaichean was delightful, probably helped by the weather clearing enough to reveal some distant views.

We reached Sgurr nan Ceannaichean summit at 17:00 - in the sunshine!

We could even see the sea!

And also the hills we had intended to climb this trip if the weather had been cooperative.

It was now a straightforward, although occasionally steep, yomp down grassy slopes to the track to the lodge.

Glenuaig Lodge is a great place to stay. It has a very well equipped kitchen and plenty of electricity for heat, cooking and hot water from the hydro system. It is comfortable inside and sleeps up to 8, though 6 would probably be enough. There is a TV (for the weather) but no wifi or mobile signal (blessing in such a spot).
