Brighouse Bay Circuit
Route: Brighouse Bay circuit
Date walked: 27/03/2015
Distance: 7.25km
Was somewhat put off by single earlier comment on this walk, but decided to go ahead anyway and I'm pleased that I did as it was an excellent walk with a wide variety of views.
Though there is a short part that follows the cliffs the path is clearly defined and the slopes, both up and down, are fairly gentle. At no point do you need to rely on a fence to assist you and the vegetation on both sides of the path does not cause a problem. It would certainly be fair to say that you would need to be careful with young children and perhaps dogs as straying from the path on the cliff face, at two or three points, the drop to the shore would be significant.
For the most part the surface underfoot is good to very good; the only exceptions are about 200 metres through a field as the path continues North past the small loch around the shoulder of Cairniehill as cattle have churned up the path, also, Cairniehill Farm is a working farm and the passage through it was a bit mucky on the day we did it.
The previous comments were from 2012 so it may be the case that some improvement in between has taken place; in any case, it is certain now that the path better matches the original description given when this path was first registered. I am certain that it is a path to enjoy, albeit some sensible care is needed on the section that passes along the cliff (where the best views on the walk are also to be found).
