Caen bhac circular
Route: Beinn Iutharn Mhòr and Càrn Bhac, Inverey
Munros: Càrn Bhac
Date walked: 18/10/2023
Time taken: 5 hours
Distance: 22.5km
Ascent: 703m
Spare day in Aberdeen, so took the opportunity to bag another Munro. Setting off late, I knew I wouldn’t have time for both munros, so I chose a circular route to Carn Bhac from Inverey.
I walked up the glen to the sound of stags grunting, probably complaining about the wind! Bit of a long slog with strong head winds, but I was rewarded with great views further up of all the hills between here and Glen Shee.
Going was good, and the ground not too wet, so the ascent up the ridge and past the grouse butts was steady and fast. Carn Bhac appears as a rounded dome with a scree summit. From the summit, there was plenty of cloud on the hills to the west and north, so I had a bit of luck today with clear views from the top.
Walking back down, I walked round the west side of Carn Creagach to descend the ridge over Carn nan Seileach back to the main path at Auchelie. Great view of Carn Bhac from this route showing the bulk of the mountain
Given how windy it was, even this hare wasnt in the mood to race off when I walked past

- Ideal day out: A energy-sapping struggle followed by (unexpected) magnificent views once you reach the brow of a ridge, or top of a mountain. West Highland Way as you reach Conic Hill overlooking Loch Lomond is a memorable example.
