Accidental tick off of my list!

Munros: Meall Ghaordaidh

Date walked: 26/04/2019

Time taken: 3.5 hours

Ascent: 1039m

I thought that I would write my first report on here despite having been a fan and user for some time!

I started off the sunny weekend with an ascent of Meall Corranaich. When we hit the to I quickly realised that in fact I had already done that hill! :shock: (I actually was looking to tick off the final hill of the Ben Lawers range for me Meall a'Choire Leith ).

Luckily my lovely wife knew I had one more to tick off and we walked along the ridge and so Meall a'Choire Leith was ticked off. (Proof that she is definitely a keeper as it was our second anniversary! :D)

I should have really known making that mistake that I would have to tread carefully on Saturday to save myself any further embarrassment!

So on Saturday my intention was to head back up to the same area and walk/run Stuchd an Lochain & Meall Buidhe (Glen Lyon).

Having driven into Glen Lyon I stopped at the first of the dams, parking at the bridge and taking off up the hill to the left.

Once up into the corrie and looking at my map I quickly realised that I was on the wrong hill having missed the right hand turn to take me up to Loch an Daimh! :crazy:

Determined to carry on and not let my second daft mistake of the weekend ruin the day I decided that I'd top the impressive looking buttress and then run up the ridge to the summit that I could see up ahead. In the heat and looking at the narrow lines on the map I knew this would be a thigh burner.

I topped out on what I now know to be Creag a'Mhadaidh and was treated with firstly a lovely walk/run (it was hot!!) up the now much more forgiving incline with great views down to Lock Lyon and the looming Beinn Heasgarnich. This was great underfoot with grass/moss providing some cushioning for my battered feet;

Here is a view back down the buttress towards the Glen;

I was also rewarded for my efforts by another spring runner showing off a nice change of coat! :D ;

After reaching the summit and having a quick drink to recharge and then a run back down to the end of the ridge and a not so pleasant steep section before heading back to the car.

On the final push I came upon these ruins which I had to stop and admire;

A final jaunt back to the car (you can just see it down at the bridge) and then I had a refreshing leg and feet dip in the river (still far too cold for a proper dip!).

On checking the map properly I realised that I had in fact ticked another munro off so claim the day as a win!
