Snowy East Linton to Hailes Castle
Route: Hailes Castle from East Linton
Date walked: 14/02/2021
Time taken: 1.5 hours
Distance: 5.5km
Started at Bakery, opposite Phantassie for high quality cake and walked over the river bridge. Sign for riverside path is round corner before railway bridge.
Magical path along northwest side of River Tyne. Saw an otter briefly. The river can get very high and this track, very muddy. It was snowy and icy today, the steps very slippy. Quite sheltered, plenty of birds and plants, you pass under the A1 road bridge
and reach the wooden foot bridge across to Hailes castle, (path does continue) over bridge,
Path reaches road, you turn right and along to iron pedestrian gate for castle entrance. It’s free.
Came back to East Linton along top road with super view of hillside that we couldn’t see in the glen.
