Glyders Adventure
Hewitts: Glyder Fach, Glyder Fawr
Date walked: 14/08/2016
Time taken: 6 hours
Distance: 8.27km
Ascent: 896m
This is my first report of a walk we did last year with my Granddad Allan, my Great Uncle Frank, my brother Ollie and my cousin Isabel. Isabel and Ollie were 7 and I was just 10. It would be our first mountain walk, and Allan chose the Glyders for this.

After getting up at 07.00am, we - Ollie, Allan and I - got ready, jumped into the car, and after a 3 hour journey to Ogwen, where we met up with great uncle Frank and cousin Isabel, we set off on the walk.
20160814_104251. On the left is Tryfan and on the right is Glyder Fach, which is the first mountain we have to climb. You can see that it is very steep.
20160814_104420. On the way we did some climbing.

20160814_114214. Time to cool off – in Llyn Bochlwyd. It was FREEZING!
2060814_120159. Picnic on an island.
20160814_115239. Time we had a real picnic.
20160814_122340. "OWW" I screamed as the huge monster dinosaur erupted from the ground, seized my hand and tried to drag me underground. But I had brought my brother with me, the famous dinosaur killer, and with one massive punch he drove the dinosaur back. It roared in pain and fled with tears gushing out of its eyes.
20160814_124641. Bwlch Tryfan. 12.45. Time for a little rest to decide whether to do Brute Force (the very steep route) or Wilberforce (the gentle route). We all decided unanimously, choosing Brute Force.
20160814_125537. Up into the mist.

20160814_130143. Looking back down from about 1/3 of the way up.
20160814_130527. Having a quick breather.
20160814_132755. Near the top waiting for everybody to catch up!
]20160814_135259. On the top at last.
Of course we couldn’t resist the challenge of the famous cantilever stone.

Castelly Gwynt – castle of the winds. Snowdon in the background (left).
We climbed up to the top, but came back down the same way as we came up because Allan (my granddad) promised my parents not to let me do anything dangerous. As we went back down a different person came over to climb and he said: “Let the pros do the work”, and I replied, “Oi, I’m a pro too, man!”
Then we walked another kilometre over the rocky terrain to reach the second peak, called Glyder Fawr (999m high).

. Seeing as we were making our way down to Devil’s Kitchen, I had to find a weapon.

Starting to descend into Devil’s Kitchen, more than 800 stone steps.

In Devil’s Kitchen, 5 devils shot already.

Afterwards we went for our first wild camp in Cwm Pennant.
And a big thankyou to my granddad Allan who made this possible.
