My very first walk report! For Munros 62-64, mostly solo. I get so much info from other walk reports, I thought it worth making a humble contribution in the hope it’d help a future walker.

I have a new approach to Munro bagging after a year or two of injury, which is take it slow and enjoy the view! With this spirit I set off to tackle Beinn Ime and Beinn Narnain on Saturday, a stunning day of sunshine and light winds. The path up Beinn Narnain was excellent, rather steep at times and with a wee bit of excitement at the very top scrambling up a gully, no problem really. Then on down and up to Beinn Ime on a nice path.

Stopped on Beinn Ime for lunch and a hot chocolate and eyed up Ben Vane. Contrary to my take it slow approach, I nursed a secret aim to make the most of the day and bag another summit. It looked pretty interesting with lots of rock outcrops but a reasonable line of attack could be seen. As my legs were feeling good and I had plenty of time on the car parking, I decided, why not, add it on. Setting off the north side of Beinn Ime towards Beinn Chorranach, I met another hiker coming up, the last person I was to see until the summit of Ben Vane. He confirmed it was a goer and there might even be a path, although he’d lost it in the bog. With the visibility being so good and my trusty gps backup, I figured worth a shot.


I descended down to the bealach (boggy) and then off the east side, through a grassy and boggy gully following a stream. A path did briefly become apparent at this point. At the bottom of Ben Vane (boggy), it’s pretty steep but very doable grass slopes with a bunch of rocky outcrops all the way up. Without a path I actually really enjoyed this section, grass was fairly dry and springy underfoot, and it wasn’t too hard to pick out a good line. Only once did I find myself on ground a bit too steep for my liking and clinging to the grass tuffs on a rocky outcrop. Could’ve been avoided!

Reaching the top almost too soon I was surrounded by other happy walkers, and there was even a small dog splashing around in the mini loch on top then down the traditional path, some fun rock sections and a long walk around the valley. 10/10 day out!
