Sunrise Sunday walk in the snow

Route: Ben Chonzie via Glen Lednock

Munros: Ben Chonzie

Date walked: 07/01/2018

Time taken: 5 hours

Distance: 12.5km

Setting off from home at 0550hrs on a freezing cold Sunday morning sounds like fun?

You bet it is, especially when you get the weather we got when climbing Ben Chonzie.

Parking up in the dark and empty car park at 0730hrs and setting off while most sensible folk are in bed, who am I kidding. we were the sensible ones, we kitted up and set off on our walk.

The early slopes/paths were covered with snow and ice but the moonlight gave us enough light to walk with and see the path clearly.

We managed to get up to the summit just before 1030hrs and capture the glory of the solitude and peace.

The joys of the day were without a doubt the chnage from moonlight to daylight and the colours that the sunrise brought with it.

A recommended hill for a 1st outing in the snow, but do make the effort to get out early enough to get the best of the sunrising.
