Getting away from it all to West Dunbartonshire's tallest pe
Route: Duncolm and the Slacks, Old Kilpatrick
Sub 2000s: Duncolm
Date walked: 04/03/2021
Much like everyone else I am longing to get back to the open countryside and the glorious views which are just a few miles beyond where we are allowed to travel to these days. Thankfully I managed to partially satisfy that urge with a midweek walk to Duncolm. I've benn up Duncolm and the Slacks more times than any other hill in the country, partially due to it being fairly close to me and due to its accessibility. The large car park at the start and the clear route make it an easy, but interesting walk, apart from the slightly boggy territory after Loch Humphrey!
On this particular day there was next to no one else on the hills, which is a stark difference from when I've visited during recent weekends. After I crossed the rather large stile I never saw another person until I returned to Loch Humphrey. It was bliss.
The hardest part of the walk is the initial climb up into the Kilpatrick Hills, but after that it is very easy going. This makes it especially great to enjoy the wide views throughout the walk.
