Scaling the Mighty Ben Shee
Date walked: 03/01/2017
Time taken: 3.5 hours
Distance: 14km
Ascent: 500m
This was just going to be a walk Started off at Glen Sherup car park . Just me and the dogs perfect day but a cold wind.
Followed the forestry track then cut off and crossed the the dam . You are on the west side of the Reservoir and follow the track up the glen just follow the arrows this takes you to the base of Ben Shee for the final assault of 100m to the summit .Met this couple up there he had all the gear and a thermometer which told you the wind chill -7c totally tropical . I started at 9am it was now 10am to early to go back so I headed for Cairn Morris hill via scadhill a faint track to follow but easy going due to the frozen ground. .
Seeing I was making it up as I was going on I decided the to go back down on the east side of the glen which included a quick jaunt up the White wisp I then followed the wood line to the deforestation found an old fire break and headed down towards the reservoir onto the main forestry track then back to the carpark
