Sgiath Chuil and Meall Glas from Auchlyne

Route: Sgiath Chùil and Meall Glas from Glen Lochay

Munros: Meall Glas, Sgiath Chùil

Date walked: 02/03/2023

Time taken: 7 hours

Distance: 23.5km

Ascent: 1220m

My 1st report on here, overdue as I use these reports for every trip.... Thank you to everybody who has taken the time
I decided to take these two from a different direction to the norm as I seem to like making it harder for myself
Anyway, parked the car just over the bridge at Auchlyne and took off at 07:45 up the zig zags of the landy track in the fresh morning sunshine. It levels off around 400 mtrs and leaves a pleasant walk towards the target area.
After a while you get to a point where you just pick a direction up the hill and go for it, no paths from this side just rough ground.

After a bit of a slog to the top... easy if you're fitter than me... you get some great views of Ben More on the other side.. To be fair there are great views all the way..

Looking across to Beinn Cheathaich on the other side.. I followed the ridge path for a bit then dropped off on the steep side and pathless ground, picked a target route on the other side and just kept going.. Underfoot was semi frozen so made the going a bit easier rather than bog trotting through the heather..

After a short stop for lunch it was an easy trek on the obvious path over to Meall Glas.

The way off the hill didn't matter so much to me as I wasn't heading back by the tourist route, so picked out the distant lines of the landy track and took aim... :D A bit rough underfoot and wetter than on the way up.. but who cares on the way down.. Arrived at the little hydro dam about 45 mins latter and set off on the track back to Auchlyne..
The walk back took about 1.5 hrs but the weather was great by this time so it passed well and gave some great views around.

Going from this side you could shorten it considerably by biking it into the dam and taking the more normal route up the hill and back.
Whatever you decide enjoy your day... :D :D
