Beinn Narnain - Our first Munro
Route: Beinn Narnain and Beinn Ìme
Munros: Beinn Narnain
Sub 2000s: Cruach nam Miseag
Date walked: 23/07/2018
Time taken: 7 hours
Distance: 11.06km
Ascent: 926m
After the breathtaking experience from Heaval on Barra summer 2017, we had been planning in Stockholm for more hiking in Scotland. We are now standing a rainy morning in July 2018 on the Succoth parking surrounded by lovely mountains. We heard later that Arrochar was the only place in the Highlands where it was raining that day. Sic. Anyway, the target of the day was to climb our first Corbett, The Cobbler.
A serpentine route brought as up in the valley with some glimpses of Loch Long.
We were first overtaken by a biker and later by a runner. At the second fork between The Cobbler and Beinn Narnain we met a couple of guys coming down from Beinn Narnain, telling us it would only take half an hour to reach the summit. So we rescheduled and started the ascent. There we met two lassies from Glasgow who already had climbed Beinn Ime.
On shaky legs we reached the top. Very misty and windy. No views but proud to have bagged our first Munro.
We followed the hikers from Glasgow who took the direct route back via Cruach nam Miseag and Creag an Fhithich. Which we regretted. This rainy day made this route very slippery and a bit risky. We should have taken the same route down. A good experience for two newbies was to keep the descent in mind during ascent.
However, after some real challenges and a couple of somersaults we reached the Succoth parking. Very satisfied of our achievements and experiences gained. Fortunately our b&b had a good dryer. And a good dram.
