Although the weather wasn’t looking as good as the previous weekend, we were both keen to get away for a day or two again. We’d been looking at Glenelg but then southern Skye looked just as good in terms of weather so we headed there. We didn’t exactly get going early and there were some pretty brutal showers on the way over – as the hailstones got particularly bad we pulled over at Reraig for some lunch. Once the shower had cleared the views towards the bridge were awesome


Once on Skye, it was a relatively easy drive down Sleat and we found a parking spot just by the small dam on Loch Dhughaill. The sun was shining (for now )


We crossed the dam – slightly deeper than expected – and followed a sort of path around the side of the loch. The ground was quite squishy but easy enough to follow towards our hill.


Looking back


As we reached the end of the loch we headed more directly for the hill – generally we were able to avoid any extra uphill and the ground wasn’t too bad. We could see Rum peeking out as we climbed


Then the clouds moved in and we thought that we’d better shelter lower down behind a rock as it could get nasty!


It got pretty brutal but with waterproofs and our big rock we were fine. As it began to clear we could see the loch below


We wound our way through the crags and as we climbed out we were able to see over to the hills above Broadford as they began to clear


Looking back it was clearing too – I was struggling but managing to plod slowly

Looking back to the trig, we could see to the hills above Kylerhea and Glenelg behind


We headed back down a similar route – the sun was out now and it was stunning, melting all the snow that had fallen

Back at the car we drove a few minutes through another snow storm…


..before finding a great camp spot


We were looking straight down Loch Nevis and as the cloud cleared, the views got even better


Soon we got hit by another snow storm so hid in the tent for a bit and had dinner


When the shower had passed, it was all looking a bit more wintery


The light was looking good


We headed up to the high point of the road for sunset – not a bad sight

Then it was back to the tent to try to warm up and get some sleep
