Meall Ruigh nam Biorag

Date walked: 27/02/2023

Distance: 7.7km

Ascent: 355m

Thought this is going to be an amazing day as I drove North from Perth. Got up to Dalwhinnie and then took the minor road to Crubenmore. Parked up at the start of the track up to the telephone masts with the car reading -9 degrees. The cloud was lazily drifting down Glen Truim / the A9 but I thought the sun wouldn’t be long in breaking it up. Started up the track and hit cloud / mist at about the 400m level. Carried on up to the masts at 515m where I had been expecting to get a great view down onto the A9 but no such luck. From here it had been my intention to head West to Meall Ruigh nam Biorag and then Meallach Chaitrine and Creag na Sanais. Covering the Western side of Coire Mhoraich. I decided to head over to Meall Ruigh nam Biorag, 544m, in the hope that by the time I got there the sun would have cleared away any cloud / mist and I’d be able to get some decent photographs but it was not to be. I headed North to the junction of the fences and with still no sign of the cloud breaking I decided to call it a day. By the time I drove down the few miles to Drumochter it was like a different world with the Munro summits nearly all in view.
