Beinn Achaladair and Beinn a'Chreachain from Bridge of Orchy

Munros: Beinn a' Chreachain, Beinn Achaladair

Date walked: 23/06/2023

Time taken: 6.5 hours

Distance: 21.46km

Ascent: 1510m

Because of my lack of car I was searching around for a walk report to see if it was feasible to bag these two Munros from the Bridge of Orchy station in one day whilst making the last train back to Glasgow, and after plucking up the courage on a June Thursday, turns out it definitely is!

Start from the station and take the path which leads to the bealach between Beinn Dòrain & Beinn an Dòthaidh. Once there continue left to Beinn an Dòthaidh for a few hundred metres before leaving the path across some boulder-y and pathless ground, aiming for the top of the crags which drop steeply into the Coire a' Ghabhalach.

After crossing a stream a faint path can be found which leads you over the top of the crags, skirting the bulk of Beinn an Dòthaidh. However the path needs a good eye to follow and becomes more like a ledge at times, with very steep ground on either side. Good weather and good head for heights is required, otherwise a slog to the top marked 993 on the map would be a safer option.

Once over, a path just above the bealach becomes visible and leads to join the more distinct track featured on the official walk report for the two Munros, taking you over a few bumps as well as one steep down climb after Beinn Achaladair.

Once bagging Beinn a'Chreachain simply reverse back to the station, hopefully leaving some time for a pint in the Bridge of Orchy hotel before catching the train back to Glasgow!
