Mochrum Fell, a pleasant surprise

Mochrum Fell. A small but uninspiring Sub 2000. Covered in forestry and a hill I have avoided going up...with forest bashing and boggy ground included as well. Yup... Its definitely been one I have been avoiding for quite a while. As I am now nearing having done the D&G Subs I had to bite the bullet and get it over with, especially as other reports have indicated that the new conifers planted are growing rather quickly!
I'd managed to convince Alizon to come along too as Mochrum Fell also has a trig point which is an added bonus

We had added Robertgee's route to our gps and also the description (thanks Robert!) and were as prepared as possible for this little adventure.
Found the parking quite easily, before heading towards Mochrum cottage where once past it we found the firebreak we were looking for. So far so good....
What quickly became apparent after this was a faint path (!) through the firebreak. We knew we had to do some left and right turns for the correct firebreaks but for some reasons we just decided to follow the path until it reached a sudden stop where it was clear that the first bit of forest bashing was to begin. The "fun" lasted less than a minute but my upper lip was already a casualty when a rather springy Sitka branch wacked me right on the lip which stung for some time after. Once pushed through we reached a T junction with the path going either way. We went to the left and soon realised that another bout of forest bashing was in order to get to the top, although by now we were SO close! Another bout of sharp, loose needles and forest bashing (uphill even!) and there we were! The Top
! the one I had been dreading! All in less than an hour! We celebrated by having lunch even though it wasn't even 12 o clock yet before heading down the way we had come. This is where it got slightly tricky as we had to remember where we had gone through the first firebreak as this is not clear, although we managed to find the right spot in the end.
All in all a rather positively surprising walk that I would even consider doing again
