Corrour Munros, bike and hike
Munros: Beinn na Lap, Càrn Dearg (Corrour), Sgòr Gaibhre
Date walked: 21/09/2019
Time taken: 9 hours
Ascent: 1900m
After 2 failed attempts to get to Corrour by train (due to issues with the trains) I decided to try doing the 3 Munro's at Corrour using my bike.
I had a look at the ordnance survey map and discovered there was a path from Rannoch Station "The Road to the Isles" so I got the bike in the back of the car and headed for Rannoch Station and parked directly opposite the start of The Road to the Isles a few hundred yards before Rannoch Station.
The first hurdle of the day was the gate about 200 yards into the cycle, it was locked which meant the bike had to be lifted over it, the road to the isles path was a bit rough at times but with few parts that weren't comfortable cycling. Anyone thinking of doing it by bike should make sure the bike is a mountain bike style, a road bike and possibly a hybrid might be risky with the thinner wheels and tyres due to the sections of the path with loose stones.
I cycled to the Old Corrour lodge locked the bike and headed straight up the hill over Carn Dearg then over to Sgor Gaibhre, with the bike at the old lodge I had to come back over Carn Dearg.
The road to the isles path to the start of Beinn na Lap was mostly downhill from the old lodge so it was easy going, the only downside was it would be uphill on the way back.
The route is easily accessable by bike without the need to rely on trains, I did consider gettting the train at Corrour back to Rannoch, (nothing to do with the uphill climb on the way back) but I had plenty time to cycle back.
Couldn't have asked for a better day to take in the views, the only think that ruined a perfect day on the hill was the wind at the tops but it did help on the way back to Rannoch with giving me a wee push back to the car.
