Culardoch in the distance
I had done the walk round Craig Leek before, so I thought I would walk the first part of that route, then keep on going and climb Culardoch. The weather was really hot, so I was more interested in carrying enough water in my daysack than any extra layers or a full set of waterproofs.

I walked along the road to the signposted turnoff to the right and started walking along the track. Instead of the turn to the right to do the Craig Leek walk, I kept on going along a fairly wide, reasonably well maintained track. Through a couple of gates and keep on going. Pretty soon I could see the hill in the distance. A quick check on the map to identify the hills and landmarks in the area, and I kept on going.

The track takes you right on to the hill, but it does peter out and you have to go for it through the heather to get to the top. I was glad I'd brought my trekking poles along. Great views once you get up there and walk across to the trig point. After a short break and a drink of water, I started back down towards the track. One hill was enough in this heat, so I just kept to the track and retraced my steps, stopping at a burn to take my socks off and give my feet a soak in the cold water. A decent walk, easily to navigate and some good views once you get up there.
