Popular shoreline walk

Route: Kiltearn Church circuit, Evanton

Date walked: 13/03/2021

Distance: 5.75km

I tweaked the route on this walk to take in the viewpoint which is just past the trig point. Instead of parking at the very busy car park on the main Street, you can park across from the school mentioned in the description or even down at the church. The roads are quiet though with grass verges to step onto whenever there's a car approaching. However, I opted to park at the community hall opposite the school which has some parking spaces and it cuts out the first part of the walk which didn't appeal to me. If you're looking to extend this route, which I did, there's different options - all of which are described on the information board situated near the church at the start of the shoreline path. I followed the directions in the description (taking in the bothy as advised) and on the return journey (after the waterworks), saw a signpost pointing to my right for the viewpoint (2km). This is the return part of one of the trails mentioned on the info board which describes it as muddy (which it is). Follow this path all the way down and turn right when you reach a t junction. You can't miss the point - follow the well trodden path and you'll reach the trig point and keep going to your left to reach the viewpoint which looks out to invergordon and the rigs. Head back to the trig point and you'll soon realise how close to the bothy you are! I returned up to the church and back over the bridge that crosses the a9 and down to the car. Next time, I'll do the same loop but will go over the bridge that crosses the river and turn left and visit the bothy on my way back. Lovely walk with great views.
